Physical DescriptionAn arrangement of painted stones represents President Gerald R. Ford wearing a black and grey striped suit and a blue and red striped tie. He is holding a gray elephant in one hand and a smoking tobacco pipe in the other.Historical NoteArtist Michael Ruane Manning gifted this rock statue to President Ford in celebration of the American Bicentennial in 1976. Manning was known for his rock caricatures, known as "Stoney Maloneys." The statue is made of Pennsylvania river stone.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
