Historical NoteThe Gowanda Shrine Club No. 1 is the first and continuously- active Shrine Club in North America. It was established November 21, 1913 in Gowanda, New York. The item was presented by the President of the Gowanda Shrine Club #1 to President Gerald R. Ford on December 16, 1975. A medal, certificate, membership card, and an emblem accompanied the gift.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
