Physical DescriptionA rectangular wooden chest features a row of six raised elephants along the front edge. A flower in the center separates them in two groups of three. The edges and surface of the lid are decorated with horizontal raised patterns made of inscribed leaves. On the center of the lid, there is a small design made of raised leaves enclosed in a circle.Historical NoteIndian Ambassador Triloki Nath Kaul sent this tea chest, which contained six canisters of tea, to President and Mrs. Ford over the Christmas holiday in 1974.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to Presient Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
