Physical Description(b-c) A pair of dark purple backless velvet heels feature ornate gold appliqués.
Historical NoteAlgerian president Houari Boumediene gifted these heeled velvet slippers to Second Lady Betty Ford on April 12, 1974. The shoes are a traditional Algerian style and perfectly match the accompanying dress (1988.977 a).Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to Second Lady Betty Ford during the Nixon administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
