The item was presented to President Ford by Anthony Cataldo, President, Depot Deposit, during Ford's trip to New England, April 22, 1975. The hat, called a "Tricorn," was popular during the American Revolutionary War.Additional Details

It was presented to Ford and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
