Physical DescriptionA small piece of light-colored wood is charred on one end. A strip of horizontal brown paper is attached to the front, and it displays rows of blue hand-written text.Historical NoteThis is a piece of charred timber found during the Truman Administration's renovation of the White House from 1948-1952. The timber is a remnant from 1814, when the British burned down the building during James Madison's Presidency.Additional Details
