Physical DescriptionA rectangular metal pin displays three vertically-striped ribbons. A multicolor ribbon is on the proper right, a red, white and yellow ribbon is in the center, and a blue, red, white, and black ribbon is on the proper left. Four bronze metal star pins are attached to the ribbon in the center.Historical NoteJames Presley earned these materials during his service in the Vietnam War. On September 19, 1974, he returned the medals to President Gerald R. Ford in an act of political protest following Ford's decision to grant clemency to draft evaders.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
