Physical DescriptionA black clay vessel has a small handle attached to the shoulder and rim. Two incised horizontal lines enclose a pattern of triangles which border the widest part of the body. It is supported by a small circular foot.
Historical NoteItalian President Giovanni Leone gifted this vessel to President Ford on September 25, 1974. The black clay Etruscan “Bucchero” vessel was found in Vulci, Italy on February 19, 1962, during an archaeological excavation. It dates to around 580/550 B.C. A dark, clay Etruscan "Bucchero" vessel. Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was processed through the President’s White House Office of Correspondence, White House Gift Unit in 1974 and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
