Physical DescriptionA glass vessel has a long narrow neck, a round rim, and a spherical base.
Historical NoteSecretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld received this vessel on behalf of President Gerald R. Ford in 1976. It is one of many Head of State gifts exchanged during peace negotiations between the United States, Israel, and Egypt. The vessel dates to the first or second century A.D. Its elongated circular neck suggests that it was used as a perfume decanter.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld during the Ford Administration. It was personally presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
