Physical DescriptionA square green and red onyx jewelry box is supported by decorative triangular brass feet.Historical NotePrime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto gifted this vase to President Ford during his state visit to the United States on February 5, 1975. Before the state dinner held in his honor, Bhutto and Ford met in the Oval Office. Joined by other members of their respective administrations, they discussed arms, relations with India, Congress’s position on arms sales to Turkey, and Henry Kissinger’s ongoing Middle East negotiations.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
