Physical Description(a-c) Two gold coins feature a raised image of President William Tolbert's face with raised curved text along the perimeter. One gold coin features a raised image of Tolbert playing an ivory horn with raised text along the perimeter.

(d) A rectangular black presentation box is lined with white fabric on the interior of the lid, and the bottom portion is cushioned with black fabric.
Historical NoteThese gold coins were a gift from Liberian President William R. Tolbert, Jr. They commemorate his inauguration as President in 1972.Additional Details

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford during the Ford Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
