Physical DescriptionA silver and gold necklace features an ornate scrollwork pendant decorated with burgundy stones and pearls. Each link of the chain that it hangs from is decorated with a flower.Historical NoteHeinrich Salfenauer, the Mayor of Salzburg, Austria, gifted this Austrian folk necklace to First Lady Betty Ford during the President and Mrs. Fords’ travels through Europe in 1975. The necklace was meant to be worn with a drindl, the traditional dress of Austria.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to her and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
