Physical Description(a) A gold charm of a bear trying to climb a tree dangles from a gold pin designed to look like a bow. Tiny red stones represent pieces of fruit in the tree and one of the bear's eyes. Overall (box) H 3 in x W 2 1/2 in x D 1/4 in (7.6 cm x 6.4 cm x 0.6 cm )
(b) A small maroon box is lined with gold fabric on the interior of the lid, and the bottom portion is cushioned with black fabric. Gold vines border the edges of the interior.
Historical NoteMiguel Angel Garcia-Lomas, Mayor of Madrid, Spain, gifted this object to President and Mrs. Ford received this gift along with a key to the city of Madrid during their European trip from in 1975. The pin depicts the Coat of Arms of Madrid, a symbol with dates back to the 13th century.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to them and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
