Physical Description(a) A silk scroll features an image of four colorful figures and animals inside of a white circle with a navy blue border. The border is decorated with white circles and yellow squares. Ornate symmetrical scrollwork designs are in each corner against a red background that is outside of the navy blue circle. Historical NoteTorazo Ninagawa, governor of the Kyoto Prefecture of Japan, gifted this silk scroll to President Ford during his state visit to Japan in 1974. It is a machine-embroiderd replica of Nishijin silk, a traditional woven cloth produced in Kyoto.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
