Historical NoteUrho Kekkonen, President of Finland and host of the 1975 Helsinki Accords, gave this commemorative medal to President Gerald Ford during the summit of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe in 1975. The summit was a major step on the road to ending the Cold War called for compromise between the Soviet and Western states.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
