Physical DescriptionA red hardback features a colorful Coat of Arms of Spain in the center of the cover. Gold scrollwork and borders made up of faces and animals decorate the background.
Historical NoteKing Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofía of Spain gifted this book to President Gerald Ford during the Spanish monarchs’ week-long state visit in June 1976. The original Atlas was published in 1587 by Joan Martines, the cosmographer for King Philip II of Spain. This book is a reproduction.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to them and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
