Physical Description(a-v) A grey plastic unassembled model of a Japanese battleship is enclosed in a paper box that was designed to resemble the texture of wood. The lid features an image of a painting of the battleship in a body of water. Two rows of horizontal gold Japanese characters are printed on the top of the lid to the proper right of the image.Historical NotePresident Ford received this ship model during his historic trip to Japan in November 1974. It is a model of the World War II battleship Yamato, known at the timeas the heaviest and most powerful battleship ever built. The Yamato was the flagship of the Japanese Imperial Navy's Combined Fleet. U.S. carrier-borne aircraft attacked the ship on April 7, 1945 and the Yamato sank.Additional Details
