Historical NoteThis object is one of two silver plates gifted to First Lady Betty Ford by the Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation. The plate features an image of the Aswan Dam. Completed in 1970, the dam controlled the flow of the Nile River and was viewed as a symbol of Egypt's industrialization.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. She donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 1991.
