Physical DescriptionA transparent crystal bowl is decorated with a gold rim and is topped with a matching lid. It is supported by an octagonal base.Historical NoteBarbara Genscher, wife of West German Minister of Foreign Affairs Hans-Dietrich Genscher, gifted this crystal bowl to First Lady Betty Ford in July 1972. The Fords’ visit to West Germany was part of the diplomatic trip surrounding President Ford’s participation in the Conference for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Helsinki, Finland.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to her and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
