Physical Description(a) A silver medallion features a raised image of the American Flag and the Finnish Flag against a textured background. There is curved raised text along the top.(b) A rectangular navy blue box is lined with white fabric on the interior of the lid, and black fabric cushions the bottom portion. A rectangular piece of metal displays rows of horizontal text and is adhered to the black fabric.
Historical NoteUrho Kekkonen, President of Finland, gifted this silver medallion to President Ford on August 3, 1976, during the Finnish leader’s state visit to the United States. President Ford had visited President Kekkonen the previous year while attending the Helsinki Conference. Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford during the Ford Administration. It was personally presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
