Physical Description(a) A frosted vase displays a figure surrounded by organic motifs. The vessel has a wide mouth and a round base.
Historical NoteYugoslavian President Josip Broz Tito and his wife, Jovanka Broz, gifted this vase to First Lady Betty Ford during the Fords’ state visit to Yugoslavia in August 1975. In a letter a few weeks later President Ford thanked President Tito for these and other gifts, saying, “The magnificent gifts which you presented will serve as constant reminders of the traditional ties of friendship that have linked the Yugoslav and American people.”Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford administration. It was presented to her and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in September, 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
