Physical Description(a-h) A set of identical navy blue napkins feature symmetrical metallic white and gold designs.
Historical NoteAbdul Halim Khaddam, Foregin Minister of Syria, gifted theses cloth napkins to President Ford. Khaddam visited Washington for talks with President Gerald Ford and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger on June 20, 1975. The visit was in response to the Ford administration's invitation for President Asad of Syria to send a representative to the U.S. to discuss the Middle East. Kaddam also gifted Ford a matching tablecloth (1987.200.1 i)Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Ford Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
