Physical DescriptionAn oblong fluted silver tray has a scalloped border made of inlaid yellow, green, and blue shell fragments.Historical NoteFirst Lady Carmen Romano de López Portillo, wife of then President-elect José López Portillo of Mexico, gifted this silver tray to the President and Mrs. Ford on September 27, 1976. She sent the tray as a “thank you” for the informal White House dinner held in honor of her and her husband.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
