Physical Description(a) A silver and bronze treasure ship, filled with various objects, floats on silver waves. It features a bow designed to look like a rooster with a long curvy neck. A round design surrounded by clouds decorates the sail, which is attached to the ship by thin gold cord.(b) A rectangular black plaque displays horizontal white Japanese characters; it is affixed to a glass display case's wooden edge.
Historical NoteRyoichi Shudo, President of the Asia Art Metal Company, gave this ship sculpture as a gift to President Ford on November 25th, 1974 on occasion of the President's State Visit to Japan.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. First Lady Betty Ford donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 2012.
