Physical DescriptionA wooden sculpture of a gazelle bends forward while the back half of its body is upright. A small gazelle stands below its stomach and another small gazelle lies below its long, bent neck. A rectangular silver plaque is affixed to the front.Historical NoteGeneral Babia Zongbi Malobia, Director General of the National Defense in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), presented this sculpture to United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on June 17, 1976.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld during the Ford Administration. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
