In a newspaper interview, Warren explained the rationale behind the gift, stating “the way President Ford handled the Mayaguez incident inspired respect of the American people. It was an act that took courage.” On June 28, 1976, the President sent Warren a thank you note, affirming “this result of your work is indeed appreciated, and I am truly grateful for the support that prompted you to favor me with such a meaningful gift.”Additional Details
