Historical NotePresident Gerald R. Ford received this model from the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Defense. In 1953, Congressman Ford was first appointed to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense Spending, and made Chairman of the Army Panel. He observed several experimental missile tests, including those for the early NIKE program. Ford became the ranking Republican on the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee in 1961.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe Polaris Missile Team gifted the item to Congress man Gerald R. Ford. The Appropriations Committee Subcomittee of Defense donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 2008.
