Physical DescriptionA model of a gray missile launching from blue and green water is affixed to a round wooden base. A rectangular metal plaque attached to the front of the base displays rows of horizontal blue text.Historical NotePresident Gerald R. Ford receieved this model from the House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Defense. In 1953, Congressman Ford was first appointed to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense Spending, and made Chairman of the Army Panel. He observed several experimental missile tests, including those for the early NIKE program. Ford became the ranking Republican on the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee in 1961.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift to Congressman Gerald R. Ford from the Polaris Missile Team at Lockheed Martin. It was received by the Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Defense. It was donated to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum in 2008.
