Physical DescriptionA Suzy Belle doll has embroidered facial features and black hair, which is divided in two braids. She is wearing a black, pink, yellow, and brown headband and a yellow gingham dress. Yellow fringe decorates her brown shoes.
Historical NoteRoy and Ruth Underwood and their employees donated five Suzy Belle dolls in April 1976. Women of the Hualapai Tribe of Arizona made the dolls by hand in the Hualapai Tribal Factory. Four of the dolls, two male and two female, wear Native American dress. The fifth doll is female and wears a colonial style Bicentennial dress.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President, and First Lady Betty Ford donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 2008.
