Physical DescriptionHalf of a hollow sienna-colored milkweed pod contains a small plastic figure of a woman. She wears a long pink skirt and a white blouse as she balances a woven basket filled with produce on her head. Brown, yellow, pink, and red dried flowers are adhered to the bottom of the pod, near the figure's feet. A brown twig is positioned behind her. A loop made of black thread is attached to a small hole pierced through the top of the pod.Historical NoteThe item was sent by a member of the general public to President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford in December 1974.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President. First Lady Betty Ford donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 2008.
