Physical DescriptionA Christmas ornament consists of pieces of felt stitched together to resemble Martha Washington's figure, in profile view. She wears blue shoes and a red coat trimmed with white lace. Two leaf-shaped pieces of green felt flank a cluster of red plastic beads, just above the hem. She holds a lit candle in one hand. A loop made of golden cord is attached to the top of her head.
Historical NoteThe item was sent by a member of the general public to President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford in December 1975. A note accompanied the gifts.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President. First Lady Betty Ford donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 2008.
