Physical DescriptionA transparent glass presentation piece has a diamond-like shape and is supported by a hexagonal base. Near the top, there are lines of golden text, which were painted on. Below it, there is a small image of a torch and multiple horizontal rows of frosted text.Historical NoteThe Vietnamese American National Gala (VANG) bestowed this award on Gerald R. Ford in 2007 in recognition of his efforts to provide aid for refugees displaced by the Vietnam war. Ford signed the Indochina Migration and Refugee Act in 1975, which made it possible for approximately 130,000 refugees from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to enter the United States. John Carlson, who served as Deputy Press Secretary in the Ford administration, accepted the award on behalf of the President.Additional Details
