Physical DescriptionA floor-length, light green, A-line style dress with long sleeves and a V-neckline is covered with a layer of organza; green embroidered flowers and sequins decorate it.
Historical Note Frankie Welch created this replica dress after the original was donated to the Smithsonian Museum. Betty Ford described this as her favorite dress. She wore it at a variety of state occasions, including the state dinner for the Shah of Iran and his wife May 15, 1975; the state dinner in Salzburg, Austria on June 1, 1975, and the state dinner in honor of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain on June 2, 1976.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford administration. First Lady Betty Ford donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 1988.
