Physical DescriptionA floor-length light green silk dress has long sleeves and a mandarin style collar. Dark green embroidered flowers sparsely decorate the fabric.Historical NoteBetty Ford wore this dress for her official portrait as First Lady. She also wore the dress to a variety of events during her husband’s time in office, including at a state dinner for President Giovanni Leone of Italy on September 25, 1974; a ribbon cutting marking the 50th anniversary of the San Diego Fine Arts Gallery on May 20, 1975; and a state dinner for King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophia of Spain on June 2, 1976.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a member of the general public to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford administration. First Lady Betty Ford donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 1988.
