Historical NoteMohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, presented this medal to President Gerald R. Ford in May 1975. It represents the Order of Pahlvi, Iran's highest-ranking order given to the Iranian Imperial Family, reigning monarchs, and foreign heads of state. The Order was abolished during the Iranian Revolution in 1979.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to her and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
