Physical DescriptionA bible's metal cover features a decorative shape accented with red, white, and blue paint. A red crown decorated with small round pieces of turquoise is above it. A vertical rectangle encloses both motifs, and turquoise stones protrude from each corner. Raised Hebrew text and small raised images border the cover's edges.
Historical NoteThe Jewish National Fund of American presented this decorated Bible to First Lady Betty Ford on June 22, 1976. Dr. Sage suffered a heart attack as he was about to present the Bible to Betty Ford and passed away later that evening. Mrs. Ford displayed the Bible in her residence at Rancho Mirage, California.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to First Lady Betty Ford during the Ford Administration. It was presented to her, and she donated it to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum in 2006.
