Historical NoteGerald R. Ford received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2001, for his decision to pardon former President Richard M. Nixon after the Watergate scandal. The award recognizes public officials who, like President Ford, have acted in accord with their conscience and risked their careers by pursuing a larger vision of national, state, or local interests in opposition to popular or powerful pressures from their constituents or other groups. The metal and glass award, styled after a lantern from the USS Constitution, was made by Tiffany and Co.Additional Details
