Physical DescriptionA rectangular lacquered document box is inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The lid features an image of a peacock among grass, yellow flowers, and yellow butterflies. The edges of the lid and box are decorated with scrollwork borders.Historical NoteChung Hee Park, President of the Republic of Korea, gifted this document box to President Gerald R. Ford on November 22, 1974, during Ford’s state visit to Korea. The box was created by master craftsman Kim Bong-yong.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford during the Ford administration. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
