Physical Description(a,b) A pair of ivory candlesticks are decorated with narrow red and blue bands, which encirle the top and bottom. Each candlestick is attached to a round wooden base.

(c) A square wooden presentation box displays the shape of Liberia and a small golden star on the center of the lid.
Historical NoteLiberian President William R. Tolbert, Jr. gifted these candlesticks to President Ford on November 6, 1974.Additional Details

Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
