Physical DescriptionA long necklace features a pattern, which alternates between gold flowers with turquoise centers and square pieces of gold that depict various Egyptian themes. A pendant hangs from the center. It depicts a raised image of two figures against a green background and is encircled by rubies.Historical NotePresident Gerald R. Ford received this gold Collar of the Nile from Egyptian President Anwar Al-Sadat on October 27, 1975. The collar represents the highest order of the Order of the Nile award, presented as the highest honor bestowed by the government of Egypt at that time.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford during the Ford administration. It was personally presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
