Physical DescriptionA curved carved piece of ivory features clusters of linked figures in various positions along with animals and plants. It is supported by a square wooden base, which has a small rectangular silver plaque affixed to the front of it.
Historical NoteGeneral Bumba Moaso Djogi, Captain General of the Armed Forces (F.A.Z.) of Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) gifted this carved tusk to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld on June 17, 1976.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld during the Ford administration. It was personally presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
