Historical NoteFrench President Valery Giscard d’Estaing presented this printing press to President Gerald Ford on May 17, 1976 in celebration of the American Bicentennial. The rare printing press, dating from 1785, was thought to have been used by Benjamin Franklin during his time as the first American Ambassador to France.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteA foreign official gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
