Physical DescriptionA tall golden eagle is affixed to a square black marble base. A golden rectangular plaque is affixed to the proper right of the front of the base; it displays rows of engraved text.Historical NoteManuel Carbonell presented this bronze sculpture, entitled “Bicentennial Eagle,” to White House staff on June 29, 1976. He considered it a symbol of freedom and a show of gratitude to his adopted country on its 200 Birthday. Carbonell was considered the last of the Cuban Master Sculptors of his generation. This sculpture is the first of a series of six cast in bronze by Carbonell.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
