Historical NotePresident Suharto of Indonesia gifted this kris, or dagger, President Ford on December 15, 1975. The kris is known for its distinctive, wavy blade and is traditionally used in pencak silat, a martial art native to Indonesia. Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from a foreign official to President Gerald R. Ford during the Ford administration. It was presented to him and was maintained at the Executive Office of the President until its transfer to the National Archives in 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
