Physical DescriptionA rectangular, vertical stamp features an image of George Washington wearing yellow pants and a navy blue jacket while standing with his hand on a cannon against a mostly brown background. There is black, horizontal text across the bottom. There are horizontal, black, wavy ink marks across the center of the surface. White, scalloped edges create a border around the image.
Historical NoteIn 1977, the United States Postal Service issued this stamp to honor the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s victory over the British forces at Princeton, New Jersey. This stamp came from the gifter's personal collection of bicentennial materials.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe general public gifted the item to President Gerald R. Ford during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives in September 1981 for deposit with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
